ASARO
Location: Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh
On top of a 3-4 storeyed apartment housing, in the small town of Mandsaur, amidst the hustling bustling streets of the fort area, with houses tightly packed on all four sides, rests Asaro, a small haven, influenced by the language of the neighbourhood and people living in it.
The neighbourhood sings of its past glory of wooden work embellished with fine craftsmanship and grumbles about the apathetic barbarous additions being made to it.
The Parent’s Room did not have any opening. So we took down the wall that obstructed the light coming into the Parent's bedroom. We then collected old window frames along with windows to replace the wall with the window frames collected from the client’s old haveli. The playful walls make both the living area and sleeping space dramatic. The old window frames also seem very happy to be reunited with the place where they truly belong.
Our main objective with the design of the bedrooms was to make these spaces feel more spacious than they really are. We used monochromatic colours to achieve this. However the client preferred his room to be dark. Dark colours absorb light and does not reflect light. We overcame this challenge by colour blocking the top of the room with an arctic blue shade and the bottom of the room with a light colour that matches the polished existing mosaic floor.
